Finley

Finley was born right before Christmas and I had the honor of taking these pictures. You might remember her older brother and sister from pictures this summer. But for these pictures Finley got the camera all to herself. She is a sweet, precious little girl and I really enjoyed my time with her and her Mom. Congrats to all of you! Sometimes, when I am running around frantic and overwhelmed, I wonder if I should really be doing photography as anything more than a hobby. It has been a busy Fall and I was scheduled to be done with sessions a couple of weeks before Thanksgiving. Then I received an email from Bob's daughter telling me about his courageous battles with various health conditions. She wanted family pictures taken - and I just couldn't say no. And I'm so happy that I said "yes"! I cannot tell you how much I enjoyed this family and how honored I was to have an opportunity to take pictures of them. The interaction between the family members and the relationships between grandparents/parents/children/grandchildren were so special and fun. This session definitely reminded me of why I fell in love with photography and wanted to share it with others. It was exactly the boost that I needed!

Towards the end of the session, Bob's daughter (Shelly), pulled a little rock from her pocket that has the word "Strength" engraved in it. She explained how the rock helped her through other difficult times and how she found it again when her dad got sick. It was absolutely the most touching, perfect ending to the session. It was also a perfect ending to sessions before the Thanksgiving weekend.

Although times can often be tough, it is important that we remember to be strong and to obtain strength from those around us - our family, our friends and our faith. As we enter this holiday season, I'm going to try extra hard to remember what is really important. I am blessed to have had the opportunity to capture so many special moments in the lives of children and families. It is truly an honor and I'm thankful for the opportunity to do so.

I took pictures of Josie and her Mom last summer. Josie now has a baby brother! Grady was absolutely adorable and was as content as could be during our session. He seemed to enjoy looking around at all of us and even caught a quick little cat nap. I so enjoyed going back to this family's home and seeing how much Josie has grown in the past few months. It was fun to watch this beautiful family interact with each other.

Sean is a senior in Grand Forks who also braved the cold temperatures! I just about fell over when he showed up in 20 degree weather with a short-sleeved t-shirt! I made him schedule a second day with me because I just could dare keep him outside too long. And what does he wear that cold day? Shorts and a short-sleeved t-shirt! Oh to be young again! I had on 14 layers and he was dressed for summer. I felt really old! Sean is a terrific young man and I wish him the best as he finishes his senior year.

These 3 beautiful sisters braved one of the first cold days of winter to have their pictures taken. Aren't they gorgeous? Although it was windy and cold, we still had a fun time exploring downtown and trying some different spots. And I especially appreciated that they didn't laugh at me too much when I tripped over a curb and went sprawling across the parking lot! Thanks for a great afternoon!

Jace is ALL BOY!! I should have had my tennis shoes on for this session! I loved all of his expressions - so fun to go back and look at the images! This session was also fun as I reconnected with a co-worker from my "Marshall Field's" days. Funny how people are connected and lives cross paths at different moments in time. It was a lot of fun to see Jace's Mom again and spend some time with them on this Fall afternoon!

Keegan recently had a birthday - so that focus of this session was on him! But we were able to sneak in a few with his little sister, Livia. Keegan (like most of the boys I've photographed!) seemed to enjoy the game of "keep away" with my camera - keep as far away from it as possible! But I think's is fun to capture those occasional glances and smirks when they do look right into the lens!

These 3 cousins were so fun! It was a dark, gloomy afternoon but their smiles sure brightened things up! Anne and Ella really gave Jacob a hard time while trying to get a picture of all 3 of them. They would pull his hair and lick his face. But he was a great sport. Anne was a crawling machine and Ella sat and smiled and watched what was going on around her. These 3 definitely keep their parents busy!

I photographed Will last summer. In fact, he was one of the very first sessions I did as I ventured into portfolio-building! I was so excited when his Mom contacted me to do their family pictures this Fall! I could not believe how much Will had changed since June. He was so talkative, and definitely more interested in getting his picture taken. He'd even give me the "cheese" smile! He'd even say "hey lady" to get me to look at him! So cute!

It was such a thrill for me to be able to photograph this newborn. Cormac was absolutely the most precious thing! And I just loved getting to hold him. It made me really miss having a baby around my house. Cormac and his parents live in the country and had a terrific house for some indoor shots. Once Dad got home, we ventured outside for a few more while the sun was setting. It was a gorgeous Fall evening. I so enjoyed my time with this family and hope that these images help capture their memories of their first newborn and their early days of parenthood.

A couple of weeks ago I was able to go to Cincinnati and visit my best friend, Amy. Amy and I have been friends since Junior High! I am so fortunate to have her in my life. I am also fortunate to be able to spend time with her girls and have our kids all know each other. It has been a crazy couple of weeks as I have tried to get in as many sessions as possible while the weather is still nice. I appreciate everyone's patience as I work through the images and get your CDs out to you. I have been so fortunate to have met so many wonderful kids and families. Thank you!

One of the funnest parts of doing this business is going back and looking at pictures a few days after a session. It is so exciting to open the images! My husband teases me because I often sit at my computer with a smile on my face. Sometimes I laugh out loud. I can only hope that all of you also have the same reaction when looking at your final images.

This picture is one that made me laugh out loud. It SO completely symbolizes, to me, what it is like as a parent to take family pictures. Things don't always go as planned, but the greatest memories and images of childhood can be captured. Sam wasn't into taking pictures so I decided to get some of Mom and Dad. As we were sitting there, he came running up behind them. I don't know about all of you, but this image just typifies the beautiful craziness of parenthood.

Let me start this post by saying how much I love taking senior pictures! As a high school counselor - it is fun for me to be involved in a completely different aspect of the senior year. So fun! Shannon and Jeff are good friends of mine (Jeff's older sister is my best friend from junior high!). I was so excited when Shannon asked me to take their pictures when I was in Fargo. I have been meaning to post these pictures for a couple of months and keep forgetting! Olivia is the daughter of one of my good friends, Jenny. Jenny is actually the sister of my best friend since junior high. But, as we have become adults and mothers, Jenny is not just "Amy's Little Sister" - she is my friend as well. It has been fun to see her have her own daughter. And Olivia is about the cutest thing EVER!! I was able to spend a couple days with them at Pelican Lake and took these pictures one morning while all the kids were outside playing.

Wow! What a crazy month this has been! I need to give a huge "THANK YOU" to all of you who have passed on information about my blog and referred me to others! I have learned so much and loved meeting so many terrific kids and families. So, once again, thank you!

I am now back to work at my "day job" and my kids are back to school and their after school activities. So, I am trying to figure out how to balance everything. I will be limiting the number of sessions I have each week and weekends are filling up!

I am currently booked through September 20. I have a few week night spots open at the end of September and early October. Weekends are booked through October 12. I will not be scheduling any sessions after November 22 (until after the holidays). I am tossing around the idea of having a "mini session special" on a Saturday in October to offer a shorter session, limited images and Christmas cards. If this is something you might be interested in, please email me at debbiosowskiphoto@yahoo.com. If there seems to be some interest, I'll post information by the end of the week.

I hope to have samples of Christmas cards and pricing information available by mid September.

When I initially photographed these two sweeties, it was very hot outside. So I asked if I could take a few more of them in the evening when it was a little cooler outside. I spent one evening last week with Asher and his big brother and sister (Isaac and Lilah. Asher, however, was the star of the show as these were his 6 month pictures. I wanted to post a picture of Meg from this past weekend at the lake. I love the light at sunset. I love how it looks reflecting in the water and through the trees. So, I tried to capture that classic summer moment - sitting on the end of the dock as the sun sets.

These are pictures of Brody - the son of my daughters' gymnastics coaches (James and JJ). Isn't he adorable? I got to watch Brody the other night and took advantage of the oppportunity to take pictures of a baby! I love the storyboard of his cute face and adorable little fingers and toes. So cute!

Grace

Grace is the granddaughter of my co-worker and good friend, Lynn. Lynn and Grace's parents were graciously willing to let me take pictures of Grace at a local park. I put together a slide show of the pictures to music and was so touched to hear that Lynn cried when she watched the video! That is an aspiring photographer's dream come true!

Grace is a beautiful young girl who played throughout the whole session. I love capturing kids like that - in their natural environment where the don't even realize they are having their picture taken.

Abbie and Will are terrific neighbor kids who are full of spunk! They are so fun and talkative! I went over to their back yard the other night and took a couple of quick shots. Don't they have beautiful eyes? Thanks for letting me take these!

I first took Jack and Audrey's pictures last summer. These two are so much fun! They both had lots of ideas for how they should "pose". This time around I went to their house (last summer we went to the park) and saw their fun rooms and their playhouse.
